Identity crises are all around us. Most of us do not have to go any farther than ourselves to encounter a false identity. For some, the false identity, or fake name we give ourselves, is one made out of worldly power: Success, Recognition, Control, Perfection, Salary, Influence. For the others, the false identity has to do with a wound: Shame, Disability, Bankruptcy, Failure, Rejection, Loneliness. In Matthew 9, Jesus reclaims people with both kinds of identity crises. Similarly, Jesus reclaims and identifies us.
