Although many of us associate joy with Christmas, why is it that many of us feel sad on Christmas night or the day after Christmas? When Christmas ends, we feel a sense of despair. Isn’t that a sign that our sense of joy is fractured? That our joy is inflated? The prophet Isaiah envisioned that God would come to liberate God’s people in way they hadn’t known and with it would come a joy they hadn’t known. At Christmas, God hopes to liberate us from our fickle, inflated joy and offer us complete joy. And everything will change at Christmas if we can begin to embrace that Joy. So will we?
