Can you remember a time when you were surprised by someone’s straightforwardness? Maybe they said something to you that struck you because it turned out to be exactly what you needed to hear? In a passage from John, Jesus is staggeringly honest and to the point with people he encounters for the first time. It seems that he wastes no time in piercing through their weaknesses to firmly establish who they are in God. In a way, he shouts through their struggles, I know you and you are good. We need to remember that God says that to us and our neighbors.
