“Sabbath” is a word that gets thrown around a lot in religious circles. It’s a word/concept that matters a whole lot in the biblical world. So what is it, and why must we practice it weekly?
The Spirit-filled Christian saints who have emerged before us reveal this truth: the Christian life is all about rhythm–slow and steady rhythm. Like learning musical scales, coming alive in our Christian walk requires practice, or practices that put us in step with the Holy Spirit. Another way to say it is there are no fad diets, no fast-tracking, no shortcuts in following Christ. There is walking and practicing daily.
And the practice that launches into rhythm? Weekly sabbath.
