Everybody loves love. Songwriters obsess over it. Philosophers pine for it. Filmmakers try to capture it. So when Christians say, “They will know we are Christians by our love,” there’s really nothing unique about that.
Unless there is. Unless people who belong to Jesus experience and receive an altogether different love. Unless people who belong to Jesus share that completely other love.
The Apostle Paul (who’s known for being one of the first people to spread Jesus’ message wide and deep) experienced and shared an altogether different love. His famous words in 1 Corinthians 13 express the love he experienced in Jesus and shared because of Jesus. “Love is patient; love is kind…” For Paul, love is.
So what does that mean for us today? In the midst the turmoil we face inside and outside ourselves, what if love is patient?
