The Apostle Paul, who was a critical figure in birthing the Jesus movement, said, “Love is kind.” You might think in saying that Paul was just looking for a bunch of endearing words to describe love. But Paul also mentioned that a fruit of the Spirit–the Holy Spirit that dwells in a disciple–is kindness.
So, what is kindness? Is it what you get when someone serves you at Chipotle? Maybe.
When we look at Jesus’ healing the blind man in the Gospel of Mark, we see that kindness is wide, deep and eternal. It’s something that lasts because it’s so deep and wide. Kindness (which goes great with patience) is the willingness to get your hands dirty more than once with somebody.
