At the very beginning of the Book of Acts, Jesus completes his encore appearance to his disciples. Jesus plays a couple of hits–songs he’d been singing–and then he sang a new song…
Rather, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8, CEB).
Jesus told those who were gathered that it was their time to take the torch. It was their time to be witnesses of all they’d heard, seen and experienced. It was their time time to be the difference.
Then, Jesus left (or ascended, to be precise).
And his disciples stood still. Why did they stand still? Why do we stand still?
Jesus is still asking, Can I get a witness?
